Jackie "Paw Paw" D. Collins
June 27, 1938 - November 12, 2011

On November 12, 2011, Jackie Dwayne Collins (Paw Paw) passed to the Lord his Maker to become an angel.  He passed away at Harbor Hospital after a long illness.

 

He was born in Conroe June 27, 1938, to Clettie Collins and Ruth Calloway. In 1959, he married Lauretta Smith to which this union was born three children, Daryl, Vicki, and Tanya.

 

He was a 1956 graduate of South Park High School and retired from Southern Pacific Railroad where he was secretary and treasurer of the Railroad United Transportation Union Local 1944.  He was a member of the Citizens of Patrol and enjoyed his CB radio.  His handle was “Gray Ghost”.  He was an avid woodworker; additionally he loved playing his guitar and piano.  He was an award winning poet who was a kind and generous man that loved God, his family and friends.  He will be greatly missed.

 

Survivors include his wife of fifty-two years, Lauretta Collins; children, Daryl Collins and his wife, Tonia of Beaumont, Vicki Collins of Beaumont, and Tanya Bryant and her husband, Michael of Alamogordo, New Mexico; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brother, Shelby Collins and his wife, Linda of Beaumont; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers.

 

His funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2011, at Westgate Memorial Baptist Church, 6220 Westgate Drive, Beaumont under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.  His graveside service will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at Morgan Cemetery, 23811 Morgan Cemetery Road, Splendora, Texas.  A gathering of his family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, November 14, 2011, at Broussard’s.
