Arthur Lewis Green, 83, of Nederland, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont, Texas.
He was born on February 16, 1928 to Oscar Kerstine Green and Tommye Mott Green in Bentonville, Arkansas. Arthur was the last child after eight sisters.
Arthur enjoyed reading, watching sports, running marathons, playing tennis and cards, traveling abroad and visiting the National Parks in the U.S.A.
Mr. Green was a World War II Army veteran and was awarded metals for expert Rifle (190 of 200 shots), expert carbine, expert pistol and expert Thompson submachine gun. He was a graduate of Southern Methodist University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and French and a Master’s degree from Sam Houston State University in Library Science. Arthur Attended Texas A&M, North Texas State University in Denton, Texas, Louisianan State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. He had a Professional Life Librarian, Life Elementary and Life High School certification. He is survived by his wife, Janice Green of Nederland; daughters, Jan Louise Williams of Phoenix, Az., C. Anne Williamson of Port Neches, Texas; sons, Arthur Nelson Green of Nederland, Texas and Kelly L. Green and his wife, Jodi of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren; Beau Beckham, Jacob Williamson, Andrew Williamson, Ben “Tre” Williams III, Justin Graham Green, Sarah Green, Stephane Green and Christopher Green. He is also survived by his sisters, Elizabeth hall and Ada Maurine Cravens and eighteen nieces and nephews and many friends and students.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents and 6 sisters, Sarah Polly McMordie, Eunice Ensign, Carrie Bess Clark, Frances Loraine Potts, Hazel Lucille Woehler and Grace Truman Fenwick.
His funeral service 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 5, 2011, at Broussard’s, 505 12th Street, Nederland, with interment to follow at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County, Nederland. A gathering of his family and friends will begin at 8:00 a.m. Saturday prior to the service, at Broussard’s.
