Verna
Mae DeYoung, 89, of Orangefield and formerly of Port Arthur, died Monday, March
3, 2014, at Christus Hospital, St. Mary, Port Arthur. She was born January 7,
1925, to Mary Minerva Matthews and Herbert Lee Lofton in New Orleans, Louisiana,
and had been a resident of the Mid-County area for most of her life.
Verna
is survived by her daughter, Dolly Ann Scogin and her husband, Robert, of
Orangefield; son, David Wayne DeYoung and his wife, Joann, of Mauriceville;
grandchildren, Ricky Scogin and his wife, Suleika, Bryan Scogin and his wife,
Iris, Jeff Scogin and his wife, Ozhny, Tammy Kidder and her husband, Chris and
Chad DeYoung; sisters, Dorothy Covington and Doyce Krebs and her husband, Ernie;
brother, Donald Lofton and his wife, Mattie; and great-grandchildren, Alina and
Terence Holley, Spencer and Kristina Scogin, Brice Scogin, Ariel Scogin, Alora
Scogin, Katrina Scogin, Brandon Scogin, Parker Kidder, Sydney Kidder, Jonah
Kidder and Kade DeYoung.
She
is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John DeYoung, Jr.; sister,
Frankie Lamkin and her husband, Raymond; brother, Phillip Lofton and his wife,
Jo; brother-in-law, Jerry Covington; and granddaughter-in-law, Kristin DeYoung.
A
gathering of Mrs. DeYoung’s family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., with
her funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 6, 2014, at
Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff
Memorial Park, Port Neches.
