I am so sorry to hear about your dad's passing, and for your mom's loss of her best friend and life long partner. The word husband just doesn't say enough. At nine I was excited to meet "The Sheriff". That same excitement has always been there any time I saw him, or spoke of him. He brought smiles to countless numbers. He was a mentor and friend, I remember the beach, hunting, fishing, and time that he, CB, and I spent together. THANK YOU FOR SHARRING YOUR DAD. Monday, May 14, 2012 |

Some of the greatest years I remember were between ages 10 and 16 (1950-1956). During those years, Uncle Richard taught me to fish on the bay and in the surf, steer a fast boat (sorry about the sand bar), fire a pistol, laugh at the most amazing stories, and to drive carefully and well. Less exciting, but more valuable, were his lessons of dignity and integrity. How often those two words are used to describe his character, and how fitting they are. Monday, May 14, 2012 |

I am so sorry to hear of Sheriff Culbertson's passing but what a full and wonderful life he had. He was a not only a great lawman and community leader but a great family man as well. I am proud to have worked for him and with him during my time at the Sheriff's office. "Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called sons of God" Monday, May 14, 2012 |

My sincere condolensces and sympathy goes out to your family with the loss of your husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Culbertson was a very good gentleman, great official for Jefferson County and genuine person, as I knew him.
My former husband worked under him as a deputy-sheriff, Mr. Culbertson set a certain standard which permitted no allowance for the many faults of pregnancy prior to marriage, marriage /adultery, living arrangements, etc.... which occur today. He was a man of high morals.
Both he and his wife were neighbors to my grandmother when she resided at Calder Woods Retirement Center, they were nothing less than extremely kind and neighborly to her. You don't find that much today.
I do recall, prior to the election which brought in a "New" guy as shefiff asking a family friend, "What do you think about the race?", his reply, which I know had concerns for his family, was "I love the man I work for and his priniciples, however, I have no choice but to work for who the people elect", what a sad day when a short timer interested only in his "personal" professional career won.
I will always have the utmost respect for your loved one and will keep him in my prayers. As you know, he was a rare breed and truly genuine loving gentleman, in public and I have no doubt personally. Monday, May 14, 2012 |
