Commander James "Jim" A. Oliver, Jr., U.S. Navy, Retired
July 9, 1917 - October 31, 2011
Daniel Williams (Beaumont, TX)

I was one of Mr. Oliver's students at Hebert High School, the graduating class of 1977. I am sorry I missed the services, and having found this guest book, I wanted to let you know how fine a man I thought he was. He touched the lives of so many Hebert students during a time of huge transition, that of integration. His caring and loving spirit shone through his military and serious veneer. He was one of the people who steered me into the engineering field. I will always remember and cherish him and the time I spent in his class. Thank you for sharing him with us.

I met Mr. Oliver as a member of Troop 177 at Trinity in Beaumont. He was a great leader to the scouts and taught us both by sharing his knowledge with us and also leading by example of how we should act. He was a great man and will be missed by anyone who crossed paths with him.

I would hope that every young man gets the chance to have a role model like Mr. Oliver in their life.

I had the privelage of meeting Mr. Oliver a year a half ago and care for him during his stay at The Village of Gleannloch Farms. During the time that I cared for Mr. Oliver I came to know of the great man that Mr. Oliver was. I am grateful to have met and cared for such a wonderful man. My thoughts and prayers go out to The Commander's family.
