Fred & Judy Allen (Beaumont, TX)

Richard has been our dear friend for 41 years.
We met on one of the first Big Thicket Days in Saratoga, TX in 1970.
Richard was there to report on the event; we were there to support Big Thicket.
We became fast friends and have been friends ever since.
We hold his memory with deep affection and respect.
What a storyteller; what a wit he had.
He loved anecdotes about history, especially.
He delighted in old-time movies, especially comedies, and old time radio programs.
His departure has left a big hole in our hearts.
His loyal friendship was a treasure.

Deepest sympathy for the loss of a good, kind man. Journalists like Richard are few and he was one of the finest. It was always a pleasure to talk with him. His good humor and keen wit will be missed.

Art Skillman (Germantown, MD)

I met Richard when we were freshman at UH in 1967. He became a brother to me that my parents did not have. Over time the Stewarts and Skillmans became one family. Dick and Margaret became our "Texas parents". I was the best man at his wedding and a pall bearer at Judy's funeral. Now Richard had moved on. His legacy will live through memories and Cindy, Cody, Sarah and the Stew Crew.
