Mike Dukes

Dana Chudej, DDS (Austin, TX)

We have lost a great man . Even though I have not seen nor talked to Coach Dukes in 38 years, the lessons I learned from while playing on The Houston Baby Oilers, have stayed with me for a lifetime. That is the true definition of greatness. Rest in peace coach.

Joyce Browder (Munford, TN)

I would like to offer my condolences to the Dukes family. My husband, Allan "Stringbean" Browder, who passed away on September 29, 2006, was a classmate and teammate of Mike at Southwest Dekalb High. He spoke highly of Mike. I have listened to many wonderful stories about Mike when my husband and Coach Jug Kell would get together. My husband tried to locate Mike on the Internet for years but for some reason we kept searching for Duke and not Dukes. It was to Allan's delight and my pleasure to see and meet Mike at the 50th reunion of the Class of 1955 at Lake Burton, Georgia. Mike was very gracious--I found him to be a kind and gentle man. I'm so glad my husband and Mike got reacquainted. Greeting old friends is always a pleasure. God Bless Each of You!
