Julia and I are very sorry about your loss. Tony was very good to us when I worked at Lamar University. He had a very kind heart and always helped us whatever and whenever we needed. Before leaving Lamar, he said to me, "Pay it forward." He will be sorely missed!

Teacher, Mentor, Colleague, & Friend

Tony was good people.

In 2000, when I was Tony’s doctoral student, he defended me in the highly political university environment because he believed in my project and my ability. I remain grateful to Tony for this and for many other quiet kindnesses he gifted me with over the years.

Tony never met a stranger. He connected with people from all walks of life. He loved storytelling… and explaining! His penchant for constructing all of the background details of a story made American Sign Language a natural fit for him. Tony appreciated people, cultures, communication, laughter, music, nature, and spirituality; and unpacking what it means when one dog won’t hunt and another dog won’t stay on the porch.

Tony dwelled on the sunny side of life. He flew from this realm too quickly and too soon; his departure casts a long shadow. I know we will be blessed by his smile again, in the warm vestiges of late afternoon sunshine, and in the sweet by-and-by.

It is hard to put into words how saddened I was to hear of Tony's passing. Tony was a wonderful teacher and mentor to many people and will be greatly missed. Please know I am thinking of you at this very difficult time and sending thoughts and prayers to you.
