Hi Verneil

Condolences on the loss of your dad. I would like to share with you the scripture that got me through a lot of dark, lonely times when my husband died. Isaiah 41:10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. God has kept this promise. I pray peace for you and the family. A peace that only God can provide~Dale

Dear Mesecher Family,

I am so sorry to hear of Vern's passing. As you know, we served together in the Army for many years. He was an officer and a gentleman in every sense of the word. He relected great credit upon his country, his community, his family, and himself. It was an honor and privilege to have known him. He will be missed. God Bless You!

Vernon was one of those people who came into my life and made a big imprint, as you can see. When I was seven, he started dating my cousin who was in nursing school in Beaumont. Vernon had just joined the army and was at Ft. Polk and came to see Dottie on week-ends. He stayed with us sometimes and Dad let Vernon borrow his car. I remember him giving me three models, a US tank, a Russian tank and a PT boat...all painted and with decals in the proper places. Having tried this at 7, I was very impressed and kept these models for years. Vernon took my sister, Vicki, and me to the Carnation store, an ice cream parlor on Eleventh St. and let us choose from the menu anything we wanted. We did and never were able to finish eating what we ordered. He smiled and helped us out a little. We went to Ft. Polk to see Vernon march in a big parade. I couldn't find him in the parade, they all looked alike. But after the parade, he let me hold his rifle. When I was 8, he took me to see "To Hell and Back" the story of Audie Murphy. It is still one of my favorite movies. A few years later I was at Ft. Polk and Vernon had just come back from Viet Nam. He came with my parents to my graduation with a Whataburger. I can still taste that first bite. And so it goes the rest of our life. Vernon died Wednesday. He had lots of medals and stories from his career in the Army. If it weren't for the memories, I would miss him more. Thank you Vernon. Rest in Peace.

It was a privilege knowing Major Mesecher; and I am glad I thanked him for his service to our great nation while I had the chance. A quiet American Hero! God Bless the family.

Dad, you gave so very much of yourself to your country, and to your family and friends. You were a true blessing to me and I will always remember your ready smile and the silly jokes that brought so much happiness to everyone around you. We had fun. You were the Dad I never had. I will miss you forever. Theresa
