I was a soph when coach Shaver first came to French from Dell Valle H.S. I remember the 1st meeting we all had with him in the field house. I think that was in 1971. He introduced his coaching staff and told us he was there to stay. We were all glad as at that time at French we were plagued with all the wrong people playing all the wrong positions for all the wrong reasons. That all came to an end and we started winning. Sorry I haven't posted earlier and I extend my sympathies to the family of Coach Shaver.

So many memories of Coach Shaver so many years ago. It does not seem like it has been 40 plus years ago when us boys first meet the coach and began playing football for him and his staff. Looking back it is now very apparant that these men helped to shape our lives. God must have needed some advice on football cause he promoted the coach. I hope to play on Coach Shavers team once again. Go Big Bill....We shall see you later coach....

Coach was inspiration to so many young men throughout the years. It is a tribute to him that I saw so many former players of his who are now in the coaching and teaching profession at the viewing last night. Coach has inspired many of us (myself included) to enter this profession to leave legacies like Coach did. I only hope that I do as good of job as he did as a mentor, husband, and father.. To the family, take comfort in the fact that Coach lives on in the lives of every young man he touched. Gos Bless

The greatest tribute a person can have is that they had a positive influence on a lot of lives . Steve Shaver has that legacy. And I consider it a privilege and an honor to say that Steve was my friend and team mate on the 1961 Lone Star Conference Football Champions
