Wonderful memories of this fantastic band director. I had him from 6th to 9th grade ('58 through '61) and enjoyed the years with him. Have thought of him often when recalling days of long ago!!!

As we near the one-year anniversary of your passing, you are missed and thought of so very often. Thank you, again, Mr. Charles for being the wonderful mentor you were to so many of us, for being the fascinating teacher you were, and for instilling in us self-discipline and a love of music.

Mr. Charles was one of my teachers who inspired me to become a teacher. He made learning fun. More so, he modeled how to be a loving, inspirational, and caring human being. He was a teacher to the end. I am one of his "disciples". He strengthened and sophisticated my love of music. Mr. Charles taught me how to play the trombone and be part of the Port Neches Junior High Band. Most importantly, he made me and all his student musicians feel like the most important person in the world. Romans 8 be a blessing to his life eternally.

Mr. Charles taught me to play the flute and was my director for three years in junior high. I loved and respected this man, and have had the priveledge to visit with him from time to time over the years, and know that I am a better person for having known him!

My heartfelt sympathy to the family. I will never forget Mr. Charles, as many others have said. He patiently taught me to play flute, which I continued to play in high school, college, and to this day. He made band at PNJHS so much fun in the mid '60's. Mr. Charles demanded integrity and precision, but with humor and good nature. He was kind and compassionate, and you could tell he was sincere.

Mr. Charles made life-time impressions on me and my family. I was privileged to march in his Jr. High band. My brother also enjoyed him in band class. My parents, Durwood Johnson and Tappy Johnson, appreciated his friendship as colleagues, at PNGHS.

My condolences to the family. Mr. Charles wil be sorely missed by those of us who have been influenced for good by this fine educator and friend. May the Lord bless you.

I will always be grateful that my path crossed with this dear teacher at PNJH. His class was the most delightful part of my day. I'll never forget his patience in teaching me how to play my saxophone, how to care for it properly and his wonderful humor that made it a joy to learn. Like many others I can still see him tossing his hair aside and tapping the podium with his baton. We all loved him for his dry wit and for his unfailing discipline. I haven't seen him in over 40 yrs, but I still marvel at how he could play any instrument and how gracefully he dealt with us all. Please, accept my sincere condolences for your loss and heaven's gain.
