I'm sorry...I did not know that Cy had passed. I worked in "Production" along side Cy and the "News" team at KFDM in the early '70's. I remember talking with him about his being liberated by General George Patton during the war. I have not stayed in touch with Cy over the years. And...I regret that I didn't! He was a great man!

His involvement with so many kids influenced me in Little League. He was a good man and he will be missed. My prayers are with the family.

Don, Skip, Mark and Lynda,
We regret not being able to be there in Beaumont today with you and all the family for Cy's services. He was a very special uncle, and, as with Aunt Bea, will be hard to ever forget. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Love, Billy & Pam

Lynda, Mark, Don & Skip,
I first met Cy and Bettye in 1984 and like many others, grew to cherish their friendship and company. I am fortunate to have had many long conversations with both. But then again, did anyone ever have a short conversation with Cy. I will always remember his ability to talk at length on a subject he was familiar with and frankly don't recall a topic that he was not informed on.
Over the years I began paying attention to what several of us refer to as "Cyisms," his unique gift of turning a phrase. One of my favorites is, "As long as they're putting erasers on pencils, it's okay to make mistakes." The short message being to lighten up on myself.
About 8 years ago Cy invited us to a night of Spinner dominoes, he was having a few folks over. While the company and dominoes were enjoyable, the evening is memorable due to Cy recalling his WWII experiences. From his first bomber mission over occupied Europe, becoming a squadron commander and then surviving being shot down and held in a German POW camp. The way he described Gen. Patton's entrance into the camp is classic Cy. Gerald Richardson and I still talk about how fortunate we are to be there that night.
Know that you and your families are in the hearts and prayers of many. This is rightly so seeing as how so many have been in the hearts and prayers of Cy and Bettye over the years.
Peace and Love, Rusty and Rhonda Hohmann

Cy Hurst was "legend" in Texas. His dedication to this great country was extraordinary as he served as a soldier, and was a POW, in WWII. Cy Hurst was one of the Texas gentlemen with real class, substance, integrity, humor and served as a mentor and friend to many. RIP, Cy Hurst.

What a legacy! We are impressed about what we didn't know about Cy, and appreciate having known Cy in his active life. We followed his news stories and especially loved his coverage of the Amelia Little League when they were winners in Beaumont and went to Waco.
We send our love and sympathies to Cy's family, knowing that his life lived here ensures his next Life with our Lord.
