God's Lent Child
I’ll lend you for a little while, a child of mine, God said
For you to love the while he lives and mourn for when he’s dead.
It may be six or seven years, or forty-two or three
But will you, till I call him back, take care of him for me?

He’ll bring his charms to gladden you and should his stay be brief
You’ll always have his memories as a solace in your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught below I want this child to learn.

I’ve looked this whole world over in my search for teachers true
And from the folk that crowd Life’s lane I have chosen you.
Now will you give him all your love and not think the labour vain,
Nor hate me when I come to take this lent child back again?

I fancy that I heard them say “Dear God, thy will be done.
For all the joys this child will bring the risk of grief we’ll run.
We will shelter him with tenderness, we’ll love him while we may
And for all the happiness we’ve ever known, we’ll ever grateful stay.
But should the angels call him much sooner than we’d planned
We will brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand."

Shanoah, Joey, Tanner & Kylie - We are keeping all of you in our thoughts and prayers. It is so hard to accept that Austin is no longer here, but it gives me comfort to know that he is in Heaven watching over all of us. What an incredible journey you have all had over the past 17 years... from the day you found out you were expecting - to the day your beautiful boy was born - to the transplant - to the numerous trips to TCH - to the "normal," fun, family times when you all were able to create memories that will always be in your hearts. May you find peace and comfort in those memories, and pride in the knowledge that your amazing son shared his love of life and his love of Christ with others. From day one, we all knew that he was special... smart, strong, and wise beyond his years. He faced every challenge head on, followed his dreams, and did so with such passion! He was so talented and could debate like nobody I've ever known. There is no doubt that he would have been an amazing doctor (or US President)! Austin was taken from us way too soon, but God needs the best of the best up there to help him out. Austin was - and will always be - one of the very best! His memory and legacy will live on in everyone who knew him... because he touched us all in a very special way. You know that we are always here for anything you need. Sending big hugs your way. We love you guys so very much!
