I was saddened to learn of Mrs. Mattox's passing two years after it happended. She was one of the most caring and diligent people that I ever encoutered at West Brook. She watched my entire family go through high school. She encouraged every student that walked into that library. Mrs. Mattox will be deeply missed. I want to say thanks for all of the help and support she provided. We will never forget her.

Dearest Edna -- a mentor, confidente, and friend for 40 years. Ah -- how I lived in th FPHS library, complete w/ toothbrush, and rode home with you every day after school. Over the years, you always had a ready cup and ready wit! I treasure all those times after 1987 (after my Aunt Lucille Horne had passed) when I stayed at your house during visits to Beaumont. You and Joe were the Mayors of Minglewood. Fond memories of you begin with you watching me make the big, scary walk alone to Burke's for ice cream, then helping me run for Congress, and finally just being a steady rock on home ground. The Fondest Farewell to extraordinary Edna.

My wife, Carol, and I would like to extend our warmest sympathies. Some of my fondest memories from Forest Park center on Mrs Mattox.

What a dear Mrs. Mattox has always been. She was a fixture at Forest Park, and then Westbrook. She will be sorely missed by all.

To the Mattox family: How wonderful to have a Mom that was so wise, smart, funny, and discerning. She taught me so much in four years of being a Libary aid at Forest Park. She taught me much more than the job desciption. She gave me a lot of insight personally and self esteem. I value her and think of her all the time. I still have the personally inscribed cookbook she gave me as a wedding present 32 years ago. I still occassionaly drive by the Minglewood home and will always hold her in my heart as a fabulous mentor. Thank You Edna for caring about students and people. We love you. Dearest Edna. The "hidden" jewel of West Brook Senior High School. How much I enjoyed the banter with her over many years. One could never come away from a time with Edna feeling anything less that joyous. Her transition leaves an emptiness that can be filled only with the memories of such a kind and dear lady. Many will miss her but none more than I.
