When I started working on Capitol Hill I heard many stories about congressional wives, but Mrs. Brooks dispelled them all! She was always gracious, dedicated to her family and kept the Congressman's feet firmly planted on the ground. I am so grateful to have had a chance to know her. I am shocked and grieved to learn of Charlotte's passing. She was so tolerant of her husband's high school friends and their celebratory reunions. I loved her story of meeting Queen Elizabeth in England. She had a good life but it should have been longer.

Please accept my sincerest condolences. Both Charlotte and Jack were the finest of folk. Charlotte was indeed charming and an incredible asset, not only to Jack, but to our whole commuity. I will never forget their many kindnesses to both Sam and to me. I will always have very special memories of them both.
