Ruth Davis Spell, 85, of Beaumont, died Monday, January 16, 2006 at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth.
A lifelong resident of Beaumont, she was a member of First Baptist Church for many years. Her hobbies included traveling, cooking especially gumbo, and bird watching. Ruth was a volunteer at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth with twenty years of service. A member of First Baptist Church since she was a teenager, and also where she and her husband of sixty-eight years were married. Ruth was a wonderful wife and mother and loved her family dearly.
Survivors include her husband, W. W. Spell of Beaumont; sons, Charles Spell and his wife Judy of Sour Lake and Gene Spell and his wife Kay of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Mike Spell and his wife Katy of Magnolia, and Wendy Spell and Jessie Spell both of Tulsa, Oklahoma; great grandchildren, Maggie Spell and Jack Spell both of Magnolia; and sisters-in-law, Mae Willey, Bea Carter, and Margie Dixon. Ruth’s aunt, Maggie Goodnight; and her sister, Lois Sweeney, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont followed by burial at Magnolia Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening, January 17, 2006 at the mortuary.
