Welton "Terry" Terry Felps

Welton Terry Felps, known by
“Terry”, 65, of Kountze, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2013, at his home with
his family by his side. He was born on
November 3, 1947, in Port Arthur,
to Marie Mills Felps and Welton D. Felps.
He was a 1966 graduate of Thomas
Jefferson High
School where he played football and other sports
and was involved in community sports such as Little League through out his
childhood and teenage years. Terry attended Lamar State
College of Technology where he obtained his Journeyman Certificate of Carpentry
and worked with his tools in the area for many years out of Carpenter Local 610
of Port Arthur. He later represented the
Local as Assistant Business Agent until going to work with the worker
assistance program that retrained laid off or displaced workers to reenter the
workforce. At his death, Terry was
working for Texas Workforce Commission Unemployment Insurance Division as a
Field Specialist. He especially enjoyed
working with the East Texas area Workforce
Center’s staff.
It was Terry’s passion to help
people and he enjoyed this in both his work and in his free time. He was known for his kind and gentle manner
and his encouraging spirit. Terry was an
avid outdoorsman, especially having a love for deer hunting. It was his dream to support a program on the
deer lease to teach young hunters the specifics of the sport. One of his fondest memories was elk hunting
in Arizona
with his brother-in-law, Don and nephew, John, sitting in five degree weather
in the snow while listening to the bugling.
Survivors include his wife, Ada
Felps; daughter, Caren Beth Felps of Kountze; sister, Tammy Logan and her
husband, Reverend David Logan, of Kountze; and numerous nieces, nephews,
brothers, sisters-in-law, and many friends, family, and co-workers. He is preceded in death by his parents and younger
brother, Tommy Felps.
A gathering of Mr. Felps’ family
and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at
Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road,
Silsbee. His funeral service will be
11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Pinecrest
Baptist Church,
5660 FM 1122, Silsbee. His committal
will be held at Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.
