John "Shorty" D. Fontenot

John D. “Shorty” Fontenot, 87, of Nederland, went to his heavenly home Sunday, April 1, 2012, surrounded by his family.
John was born to Pauline and Thomas Fontenot on June 28, 1924, in Chataignier, Louisiana, and has been a resident of Nederland since 1957. He worked at Burton Ship Yard and B.F. Goodrich, where he retired from in 1987. John enjoyed being with his family, his Cajun music, and gardening.
Left behind to cherish his memories are his sons, Delwood Fontenot and his wife, Peggy and David Fontenot and his wife, Charlotte; and one daughter, Mary Newton and her husband, Steve, all of Nederland; four grandsons, Troy Fontenot and his wife, Paula, Nicholas Fontenot of Houston, Logan Fontenot, and Colton Fontenot, both of Nederland; one granddaughter-in-law, Loretta Fontenot Hardy of Nederland; four great-grandchildren, Shelby Fontenot, Hunter Fontenot, and Bailey Grace, all of Nederland, and Clayton Primeaux of Port Neches; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; all of his siblings; wife, Pauline Fontenot; and grandsons, Brian Keith and Steve Dewayne Fontenot.
A gathering of his family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at Broussard’s, 505 12th Street, Nederland. His Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 211 Hardy Avenue, Nederland, with interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches, under the direction of Broussard’s.
