Joseph "Joe" Jefferson Street
November 28, 1964 - March 25, 2012
Joseph “Joe” Jefferson Street, 47, passed away peacefully in the early morning of Sunday, March 25, 2012, at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont.
He was born November 28, 1964, in Nederland, to Jeanelle and James Street. Joe was a 1983 graduate of Nederland High School where he played both football and baseball. He earned a Mechanical Engineering degree from Lamar University. Mostly quiet and thoughtful, but always quick with a witty remark, Joe was always known for his culinary art skills, his love of books and his adoration for all dogs but in particular, Border Collies.
He will be missed by those who loved and cherished his companionship. Joe’s intelligence, dry wit, sense of humor, and unselfish spirit will leave a void in the lives of all who had the pleasure to know him. Instead, his family and friends will enjoy a lifetime of memories and the indelible impression upon any and all who took the time to get to know him.
Survivors include his parents, Jeanelle and James Street; brother, Jim Street and his wife, Nell; and sister, Jan Fontenot, all of Nederland; nephews, Mason Street, Colton Fontenot, Trent Fontenot, and Tate Fontenot; niece, Karsyn Fontenot; his Border Collies, Jay and Lilly; great-aunt, Gladys Price; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A gathering of his family and friends will begin at 5:00 p.m. with his memorial service to follow at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at First United Methodist Church of Nederland, 104 North 13th Street, Nederland, Texas 77627, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 12th Street, Nederland.
Cremation arrangements were handled through Broussard’s.
Due to Joe’s love for dogs the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Humane Society of Southeast Texas, P.O. Box 1629, Beaumont, Texas 77704, www.petsforpeople.org. or since Joe also struggled with diabetes for many years the family would also appreciate donations being made in his honor to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, Virginia 22312, www.diabetes.org.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to St. Mary’s Port Arthur ICU nurses who took exceptional care of this during his recent prolonged stay. FRIENDSHIP IS LOVE WITHOUT HIS WINGS – Lord Byron.
