John Nelson Batiste

 John Nelson Batiste, 81, of Winnie, died March 19, 2012, at the Christus Dubuis Hospital, of Beaumont. A native of Church Point, Louisiana, he had lived in the Winnie-Stowell area for over sixty years.

John was a long time member of St. Louis Catholic church where he served faithfully as an Usher, Eucharistic Minister and a member of St. Martin’s Knights of Columbus. He loved to mow grass and it seemed to give him a little since of peace. He would mow yards and also mow and weed eat around the graves of his loved ones at the cemetery. John loved having a vegetable garden, as he enjoyed sharing the rewards of his garden with loved ones and friends. He enjoyed watching baseball games, Matlock and western movies.

John was a very independent man and a man of deep Christian faith.

He is survived by his daughters, Marilyn Green and her husband, Roosevelt of Stowell and Cecile Batiste of Grand Prairie; son, James Batiste and his wife, Ruthell Brown of Stowell; grandchildren, Brandon Green, Breelee Green, Shalondra Batiste, Sean Coley, Jeremy Batiste, Jackie Batiste, James Batiste, Jr., and Jason Thomas; great grandchildren Jasmine Batiste, Tramin Marshall, and Lauren Cooper; brother, Joseph Batiste; sister, Mary Lou Collins; nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Cecilia Batiste; wife, Ella Batiste; sisters, Rosa Bellard, Lucille Wilridge and Ilene Valiere.

A gathering of his family and friends will begin at 9:00 a.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 24, 2012, at Broussard’s, 134 W. Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday afternoon at St. Louis Catholic Church, 315 W. Buccaneer Drive, Winnie, with interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery, under the direction of Broussard’s
