John H. Gernentz, Jr.

John Howard Gernentz, Jr., 61, of Nederland, passed away Friday, March 16, 2012, at Harbor Hospice, Beaumont, Texas. Born August 9, 1950, in Weslaco, Texas, to Mildred Louise Brixey and John Howard Gernentz, Sr., he was a resident of the Mid-County area since 1951.

John enjoyed singing, fishing, hunting, and was a knife smith.  He had a passion for the outdoors and will be remembered as a wonderful father and grandfather who shared his love of nature with all who knew him.

He is survived by his sons, Kyle Gernentz and his wife, Tonya of Beaumont, Kevin Gernentz and his wife, Concetta of Nederland and Kurtis Gernentz and his wife, Melanie of Nederland; daughter, Kerrie Frederick and her husband, James of Killeen; grandchildren, Brianna, Geordin, Aleyah and Wyatt; brothers, James Gernentz of Baytown, Joe Gernentz of New Port Richey, Florida, and Jordan Gernentz of Houston.

John is preceded in death by his parents, John and Mildred Gernentz.

A gathering of his family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 23, 2012, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.  His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 24, 2012, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.  Following the graveside service, family and friends are invited to a gathering at Eagles Lodge, 2313 Nederland, Avenue, Nederland.
