Melvin B. Fontenot, 91, of Beauxart Gardens, died Sunday, March 11, 2012, at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas, Port Arthur. Born May 7, 1920, in Ville Platte, Louisiana to Agnes and Aroile Fontenot, he was a resident of the area since 1945. Melvin enjoyed shrimping, fishing and squirrel hunting. He was also a veteran of the United States Merchant Marines.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Nola Fontenot of Beauxart Gardens; daughter, Gwen Frith and her husband, Curtis of Forked Island, Louisiana; sons, Milton Fontenot and his wife, Leah of Kountze and Clint Fontenot and his wife, Sara of Beauxart Gardens; ten grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sandra Johnson; and grandson, Colt Fontenot.
His funeral service will be 2:00p.m., Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland, with interment to follow at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County, Nederland. A gathering of his family and friends will be 5:00 p.m. until 8:00p.m., Tuesday, March 13, 2012, with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m., at Broussard’s.
