Herbert William Bowers, 91, of Lumberton, passed away peacefully, Friday, March 9, 2012.
He was born March 8, 1921, in Singer, Louisiana. Mr. Bowers was a United States Army Air Corps Veteran having served as an airplane and engine mechanic during World War II. He retired from Texaco Refinery in Port Arthur as a supervisor in 1981 with forty years of service.
Mr. Bowers was a member of the First Baptist Church of Loeb. He loved the Lord, his family, friends and his church. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, hunting, fishing, and RV traveling throughout the United States and Canada.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Eula Mae Harper Bowers; daughter, Katie Ann Bowers; stepdaughter, Darlene Leach; step grandchildren, Kimberly Hazen (Danny) and Jamie Allen (Troy); step great-grandchildren,Michael Graves, Makayla Hazen, Matthew Hazen, Mason Allen, Jeremy Hazen, and Joshua Hazen; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Curtis W. Bowers; mother, Mary Frances Harbin Bowers; brother, John Wyley Bowers; sisters, Frankie Mae Bowers, Dorothy Nell Thomkins, Ruby Lee Marbinec, Ruthie Lee Gainey, and Cleona Hoover.
A gathering of his family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 15, 2012, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 16, 2012, at First Baptist Church of Loeb, 3082 Highway 69 South, Lumberton with The Reverend Rodney L. Puryear officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s.
