December 15, 1924 - March 4, 2012

Mary Alice (Mousie) McAlpine-Denby-Smith, 87, of Baytown formerly of High Island passed away peacefully at the Houston Hospice on March 4, 2012.

She was born on December 15, 1924, in Marlin to Henry and Irene (Featherston) McAlpine. Mary was the seventh of eight children and spent most of her early life in Marlin where she graduated from high school in 1942.

Mary was a loving wife to Ira George Denby of Remlig for twenty-four years and a wonderful mother to Jane, David and Stephen. After the passing of her husband, George in 1967, she married Jester Eugene Smith in 1970, and was in a loving marriage for twenty-seven years and became a second mom to Danny, Linda, Jerry and Susan.

She was a life-long member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority; a member of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of St. John United Methodist Church of Baytown, and many community activities throughout her life.

Everyone who met and knew Mary can testify to her kindness, good spirit, and love of family and faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She will forever be missed and remembered with love by her family and friends. She is now with God and by His side, having lived a long and meaningful life of faith and service to her Lord.

Mary is survived by her children, Jane Denby Smith, David George Denby, Stephen Darell Denby, Danny Eugene Smith, Linda Smith Black, Jerry Wayne Smith and Susan Smith; grandchildren, Brad Smith, Corey Smith, Darren Smith, Natalie Smith, Jonathan Denby, Diana Denby, Jennifer Collins, Richard Black, Jason Black, Robbin Howard, Tyler Smith, and Shayda Heath; great-grandchildren, Naomi Smith, Eric Moss, Alex Lemmonds, Makenzie Catching, Kendal Carnley, Cameron Carnley, Zachary Smith, Jonah Smith, Faith Smith, Trinity Smith, Kyle Smith, Haley Sabol, Hannah Sabol, Ty Sabol, Ryan Black, Maddie Black, Luke Black, Kaitlyn Black, Brett Black, Parker Howard, Keaton Howard, Lilly Heath, Grayson Heath, Maddox Collins and Noah Collins; great-great-grandchildren, Al Capado, Juliana Gill, Gabriela Roberts and Damien Moss; sister, Billie Pearl Chaline; and numerous other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Frances McAlpine and Irene Jane Featherstone McAlpine; brothers, Louie McAlpine, Lewis McAlpine, Earl McAlpine, H. F. “Mac” McAlpine, Jr.; sisters, Neoma Stoviak, Juanita Geisler; husbands, Ira George Denby and Jester Eugene Smith; grandsons, Staff Sargent Jeremy Daniel Smith and Cody Lane Scott Sabol.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2012, at Broussard’s, 134 W. Buccaneer Drive in Winnie burial will follow at Magnolia Park Cemetery, 2290 Pine St., in Beaumont. A gathering of her family and friends will be at 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 2012, at Broussard’s.
