Esther Merle Spell Mott
June 21, 1919 - March 3, 2012
Esther Merle Spell Mott, 92, of Beaumont, died Saturday, March 3, 2012, at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth, Beaumont.
A native and lifelong resident of Beaumont, she was born June 21, 1919, to Rosa Esther Spell and Oliver Claude Spell. Mrs. Mott enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, and was a member of North End Baptist Church since 1953.
A child of the Great Depression, Merle Mott appreciated all blessings, large and small. She never had a cross word for anyone, always spoke kindly of everyone or said nothing at all. She opined that one should feel sorry for bullies because their behavior resulted from their low opinion of themselves. She exemplified the best of Christ’s teachings, living humbly with her faith and family. She was a hard act to follow.
Survivors include her son, Robert Mott and his wife, Linda Nations of Houston, daughter, Phyllis Livingston and her husband, Clayton of Sour Lake; grandchildren, Laura Mott, Anna Mott, and Robert Livingston; great-granddaughter, Esmé Marcellini; twin brother, Earl Spell; sister, Mae Kennedy; and brother, Martin Spell.
She is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-five years, Solon Arthur Mott, Jr.; and brothers, Horace, Elder, and Ben Spell.
Her memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2012, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Cremation arrangements are being handled under the direction of Broussard’s Crematorium.
Memorial contributions may be made to North End Baptist Church, 5115 Eastex Freeway
