Hazel Williams Bishop, 94, of Kountze, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2012, at Kountze Nursing Center. She was born on December 10, 1917, in Jasper, to Kate Mashaw Williams and Jim R. Williams.
Known to most as “Grannie”, Hazel lived twenty-seven years in San Antonio where she worked for the City of San Antonio Police Department in the school crossing division, rising to the rank of supervisor. Upon retirement in 1980, she moved to Beaumont to care for her only grandchild.
Survivors include her son, Jimmy Bishop and his wife, Debbie of Lumberton; grandson, Jared Bishop of Nacogdoches; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Wayne Bishop; six sisters; and two brothers.
A gathering of her family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. Her graveside service will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at Evergreen Cemetery, West side of Main Street, Jasper with her nephew, Larry Williams, officiating, under the direction of Broussard’s.
