S. W. "Smiley" Burgess

S. W. “Smiley” Burgess, 77, of Beaumont, passed away Friday, February 17, 2012, at Harbor Hospice, Beaumont.
He was born March 1, 1934, in Hilltop, West Virginia, to Edith Robnett Burgess and Hamilton Burgess, and had been a resident of Beaumont since 1975. Smiley ran a Monterrey House Franchise for many years, and later built and sold metal portable buildings. He was a United States Army Veteran.
Smiley enjoyed cooking for his family and friends. He also enjoyed working with wood and photography. He loved small animals, wild or tame.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Burgess of Beaumont; sons, Bryan Burgess of Rowlett, Kirby Burgess of Fargo, North Dakota, and Todd Burgess of Kennard; step-daughters, Pam Merriman and her husband, Shane of Nederland, Natalie LaVigne and her husband, Mike of Beeville, and Nancy McFaddin and her husband, Andrew of Hockley; fourteen grandchildren, JuAune Nicole, Zachary Shane, Tristan Blaine, Ethan Todd, Amanda Marie, Marion Seabring, Paul Casey, Neil Alan, Alex James, Renee Kathrin, Kaley Ann, Zachary James, Andrew Thomas, and Natalee Ruth; and two great-grandchildren, Conner Blane, and Miranda Marie.
A gathering of his family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., with his funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His committal will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 23, 2012, at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Memorial Veterans Drive, Houston, under the direction of Broussard’s.
