Elliott Doyle English passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2012. She was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on October 7, 1919, to James Elliott Doyle and Adele Stevens Doyle. Upon the sudden death of her father in 1925, she and her mother moved to Dallas, where Elliott attended Woodrow Wilson High School and then graduated from Southern Methodist University with a B.A. in Interior Design. She was a member of Tri Delta sorority while attending SMU, and there met her future husband, Dan English Jr. They married in Dallas on August 14, 1943.
Elliott and Dan moved to Beaumont, Texas in 1963 and have lived there since. Elliott was active in the Mary Howell Garden Club, the Symphony League of Beaumont, the Tri Delta alumnae group, Meals on Wheels, and in volunteer work at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. She also loved playing bridge and swimming. Elliott was a devoted mother and homemaker. She was an excellent cook specializing in wonderful desserts and continued her love of interior design with an outstanding ability to upholster furniture and make draperies.
Elliott is survived by her loving husband of sixty eight years, Dan English Jr.; sons, Dan English III and his wife, Kay, of Houston and Jim English and his wife, Vicki, of Oklahoma City; and four grandchildren, Dan English IV, Spencer English, Ellen English and Davis English.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 17, 2012, in the Parlor of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 1350 North 23rd Street, Beaumont. Her memorial service will be 4:00 p.m., Saturday, February 18, 2012 at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue.
