Susan "Sue" Abbo
July 18, 1959 - January 30, 2012
Susan “Sue” Abbo was born on July 18, 1959, in Beaumont, to Ray and Ann McRoberts and a sister to Dank, Jan, Karen, Margaret, and Blake. She had lived in Lumberton since there was only one stop sign and passed away in her home on January 30, 2012.
Sue graduated from Lumberton High School and attended Lamar University for two years until she met the love of her life. At 46 she went back to college to receive her degree in nursing. She told herself that she would graduate college before she turned 50 and she didn’t… she did at 49!
Sue was a loving wife to Joel Abbo for over thirty-two years, dedicated mother to her four loving children, Garrett, Bryan, Trevor, and Laurie, and “GeeGee” to her only granddaughter, Jaycee Rose. She had a strong faith in God that helped her throughout her battle with cancer. Sue had eighteen nieces and nephews and enjoyed attending every activity that she could like watching the Wimberley Texans win state!
Sue worked for many years as a substitute teacher while her children attended school. Her passion was to care and tend for other people, family or not. She found excitement in her work at Harbor Hospice, where she was dedicated to nurturing her patients and co-workers. Sue enjoyed relaxing at the Guadalupe River in New Braunfels with her daughter and good friend, Myreta. She loved going to Carrabba’s for “Wine Night” with her sister, Jan and other close friends to sit and visit. Sue loved catching a good sale at Dillards, beating her sisters in marbles, and giving Paula Deen a run for her money!
In October of 2010, Sue was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and battled through five different chemotherapy treatments and ten rounds of radiation. The cancer began to spread throughout different parts of her body. In November of 2011, she was told she had months, not years to live so she decided to stop chemo and chose to experience quality of life over quantity. During that time she had many family members and friends bring food, offer support, and donate their time and money. The support of her family and friends was overwhelming and greatly appreciated! The acts of kindness displayed “the world is a good place.” –Sue M. Abbo
