Joyce Platt

Joyce Platt, 82, of Pine Ridge, died Sunday, January 29, 2012 at Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas in Beaumont. Joyce was born January 8, 1930 in Hardin County to Carl and Connie Alene (Thomas) Griffin. A resident of the Pine Ridge area most of her life, Joyce was a private caregiver and was also a longtime member of Pine Ridge Baptist Church. She enjoyed traveling, her grandchildren and taking care of her cats and birds.

Joyce is survived by her children, Virginia Bright and her husband William Stork of Rockdale, Barbara Fregia and her husband Glenn of Liberty, Doll DuMoit and her husband Dan of League City, Donna Yarbrough and her husband Matt of Brookeland, Vickie Gober and her husband Carl of Village Mills; sister, Faye Rowell and her husband Bob of Beebe, Arkansas; her longtime companion and friend, Charlie Pelt; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband James Platt and sons, Carl Taylor and Melvin Fregia.

Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Broussard’s, 530 W. Monroe, Kountze, with burial to follow at Pine Ridge Cemetery near Sour Lake. A gathering of her family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at Broussard’s.

Joyce’s family has requested that memorial contributions be made in her name to Susan G. Komen For the Cure, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, Texas 75266.
