Bonnie Lee Wirfs, 83, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, Beaumont.
She was born April 19, 1928, in Kinta, Oklahoma, to Mary Kasinger Qualls and John Qualls, Bonnie lived in Gainesville, Georgia and had resided in Beaumont for the last year.
Bonnie received her nursing degree in 1971 when she was 40 years of age. Her forty year career included volunteer nursing service with her husband at the Good News Clinic and My Sisters Place in Georgia, and then at Southeast Texas Nutrition Center. Bonnie is fondly remembered by her friends at McEver Road United Methodist Church and Wesley United Methodist Church, her many friends in healthcare and volunteer service, and especially the families and children who were blessed by her servant’s spirit and loving heart.
Survivors include her beloved husband of sixty-five years, Lewis Wirfs of Beaumont; her beloved children: daughter, Dr. Mari Jessica Wirfs of New Orleans, Louisiana; son, Michael Lynn Wirfs and his wife, Susan of Lumberton; five grandchildren, John David Abernathy, Michael Stephen Abernathy, Lindsey Elizabeth Abernathy, Jason Stephen Wirfs and Michael Lewis Wirfs; four great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Brayden, Michael and Alex.
Her memorial service will be 3:30 p.m., Saturday, January 21, 2012, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 3810 North Major Drive, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.
A family committal will be held at Broussard’s Crematorium.
