Cruz Solis Garcia, 98, of Port Arthur, died Thursday, December 15, 2011, at Mid-Jefferson Extended Care Center in Nederland. Born February 13, 1913, to Fernanda Chavez and Esteban Solis in Leon GTO, Mexico, she was a resident of the area for over eighty years. Cruz was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Port Arthur and former president of las Damas de Guadalupanas. She enjoyed making ceramics, sewing, cooking, singing in the church choir, and watching weekly Mass on EWTN. Cruz was faithful in her beliefs, loved her church and was very caring and giving.
She is survived by her children, Josie Robertson of Groves and Rose Mary Buesing of Port Arthur; grandchildren, Perry Dean Forney, Bliss Burchett, Dawn Forney, Richard Deone Dixson II and Donovan Dixson; several great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Cruz is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Anastasia Garcia; daughter, Toni Forney; and her great-great grandchild, Noah.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 19, 2011, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 3648 S/Sgt Lucian Adams Drive, Port Arthur, Texas, with interment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Groves, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. A gathering of her family and friends will be from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Sunday, December 18, 2011, at Broussard’s, with a Rosary recited at 4:00 p.m.
