Ben Walhood, Jr., 57, of Groves, died Saturday, December 10, 2011. Born January 17, 1954, to Merlene Fountain and Ben Philip Walhood, Sr. in Beaumont, he was a lifelong resident of the area. Ben was employed as an electrician with Savage Pap-Tech for the last twelve years and prior to that had worked with Gulf States Utilities for over twenty years. He was also a veteran of the United States Marines, having served in the Vietnam War. Ben enjoyed fishing, riding his Harley and will especially be remembered for his sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife of nine years, Paulette Walhood of Groves; mother, Merlene Walhood of Vidor; children, Kenny Walhood of Vidor, Jason Walhood of Port Neches, Ben Walhood III of Beaumont, Roxanne Chavez of Almagorda, New Mexico, Alfred Burke Foster and his wife, Trish of Acworth, Georgia and Laura Foster of Groves; grandchildren, Luke, Diego, Kacee and Kadence and Kenzy; and he will especially be missed by his faithful four legged companions, Bitsy and Harley.
He is preceded in death by his father, Ben Walhood, Sr.; and brother, Michael Walhood.
A gathering of his family and friends will be from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., Monday, December 12, 2011, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.
A private family committal will be held at a later date.
