Luther "Buck" Charles Ladner
February 27, 1932 - December 8, 2011
Luther Charles “Buck” Ladner, 79, of Lumberton, passed away at Beaumont, Texas. He was born in Devers and lived in the Beaumont area since childhood. He was a retired building contractor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edna All Ladner and Rudolph Ladner; brother, Rudolph “Doc” Ladner; and sister, Eunice Petkovsek.
He is survived by his wife, June Ladner of Lumberton; daughter, Lawanna Dugat and her husband, Steve Dugat; granddaughters, Nikki Dugat and Emily Dugat of Fannett; brother, Sam Ladner of Mississippi; sister, Ruby Smith of Vidor; and many nieces and nephews who were all special to him.
Buck was a #1 Dallas Cowboy fan whether they won or lost, and if you weren’t listening to George Jones, you weren’t listening to music. Buck worshiped his daughter and granddaughters, and the last smile he had was when he saw a picture drawn for him by Emily. Buck’s friends and hunting buddies were truly like his brothers. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He was well known in the area for his charitable work. He cooked for numerous fund raisers such as, Boys Haven, Girls Haven, and for individuals who were facing big medical bills.
He loved this area, but his second love was Llano where he hunted for fifty years. He and some of his hunting buddies started a small fund raiser twenty years ago for a school for the mentally and physically challenged. They hauled several ice chests full of crawfish to Llano, showed the few people who showed up how to peel crawfish and raised a few dollars for the school. Every year since then they have held a larger and larger “Crawfish Open”, and now serve several thousand pounds of crawfish, and have raised thousands of dollars for Llano charities.
Buck and some of his buddies hauled food and barbeque pits to south Louisiana after Hurricane Andrew, cooking and serving food to an entire community devastated by the storm.
We, the family, wish to express our gratitude to the doctors, nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists, and support staff for the compassionate care given to our loved one.
His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 11, 2011, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont with entombment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. A gathering of his family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Saturday, December 10, 2011, at Broussard’s.
The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Boys Haven of America, 3655 North Major Drive, Beaumont, Texas 77713 or to Crawfish Open, 303 Highway 71 East, Llano, Texas 78643.
