Maurice E. Sevars, 88, of Nederland, died Saturday, December 3, 2011. Born in Roganville, Texas on July 10, 1923, to Ellison and Jane Peterson Sevars, Maurice had been a resident of Nederland since 1960. Maurice served in the United States Army during World War II. His newspaper career included Port Arthur News, Houston Chronicle and Houston Post. He later retired from Texas Commerce Bank. He enjoyed spending time in his garden planting flowers and was known as the family handyman. Maurice will be remembered as an honest man who was very loving and caring.
Survivors include his wife, Adelle Heathcock Sevars of Nederland; daughter, Sharon Dickard and her husband, Reid of Silsbee; son, Mark E. Sevars and his wife, Kan of Thailand; grandchildren, Shannon Best and her husband, James of Henderson, Kara Garner and her husband, Grant of Buna; great grandchildren, Peyton Garner and Gavin Garner; brother, Ed Sevars of Comfort.
His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at Broussard’s, 505 12th Street, Nederland with a burial to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, 101 Block Street, Port Neches. A gathering of his family and friends will be Tuesday, December 6, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Broussard’s.
