Nona Waterfield
May 7, 1926 - December 1, 2011
Nona Waterfield, 85, beloved mother, passed peacefully Thursday night, December 1, 2011, at Christus Hospital, surrounded by her three children.
Widowed from the husband she loved, Harold Waterfield, for more than thirty-four years, Nona rebuilt her life around her family and friends, raising her remaining daughter through adolescence and providing for them both with her thoughtful, frugal work and love. She served her community for ten years as a library clerk at Miller Library on Dowlen, making many new friends.
A member of North End Baptist Church, she followed her faith even after she could no longer reach the church.
Through her love and guidance, she is survived by three adult children, Joseph Waterfield and his wife Becky, Karen Garrison and her husband Bruce, and Janet Waterfield and their families; five grandchildren, Grant and Greg Garrison, Cade Joseph Theriot, Lauren Waterfield, and Lindsay Wagner and her husband John; and two great grandchildren, Hayden and Ainsley Wagner. She has one surviving aunt, Anza Rachels, 87, who was more a sister than an aunt.
She leaves behind lifelong friends who shared their joys and disappointments through a long and fruitful life. She will be missed, but never forgotten by those who loved her and shared her life. God bless her eternal life in heaven.
Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 5, 2011, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont. A gathering of her family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, December 4, 2011, at Broussard’s.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Charity League, Inc. for Hearing and Speech Impaired Children, P.O. Box 530233, Birmingham, Alabama 35253-0233 or a charity of one’s choice.
