Ben P. Toomey, Jr., 67, of Beaumont, died Thursday, November 24, 2011, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas in Beaumont.
A native and lifelong resident of the Beaumont area, he was born May 2, 1944, to Verline Fee Toomey and Benjamin P. Toomey, Sr. Ben was a United States Army veteran having served in Vietnam and was a retired cattleman.
Survivors include his wife of eighteen years, Betty Toomey of Beaumont; daughter Shannon Gibson; and son, Thomas Toomey, both of Beaumont; five grandchildren, Amanda Gibson, Ben Gibson, Cole Toomey, Kylie Toomey and Dustin Toomey; one great-granddaughter, Lauren Gibson; sister, Jane Broussard; and brother, Chris Toomey, both of Beaumont; Louis Broussard, along with other numerous nieces and nephews; and three stepchildren, Greg Welch of Nederland, Denise Hackbarth of Houston and Julie Cormier of Bridge City.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Maureen Roberts.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 29, 2011, Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 245 West Highway 90, China, with interment to follow at Haven of Rest Cemetery, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A gathering of his family and friends will begin at 5:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m., Monday, November 28, 2011, at Broussard’s.
