Robert "R.G." George Martin

Robert George Martin “R.G.”, 86, of LaBelle, died Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas in Port Arthur. Born September 3, 1924, to Mittie Jackson and George Washington Martin in Sour Lake, he was a lifelong resident of LaBelle.  R.G. was a retired supervisor, employed for over thirty-five years with Union Oil. He was also a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in World War II from 1942 to 1945.  On May 16, 1946, he married the love of his life, Hattie Naquin.  R.G. was one of the founders and Deacon of LaBelle Baptist Church.  He was very much a man of faith and a follower of Jesus Christ and over his lifetime led many individuals to know the Lord.  R.G. was very gentle in nature and enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing with his sons and grandsons, and most of all being surrounded by the company of his family. 

He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-five years, Hattie Naquin Martin of LaBelle; daughters, Ann Picou and her husband, Steve of LaBelle and Charlotte Contat and her husband, Kirby of The Woodlands; sons, Alton Martin and his wife, Leslie of Labelle and Robert Martin and his wife, Kathy of Fannett; grandchildren, Steve Picou, Jr., Jill Chavers, Andy, Josh and Sean Martin, and Robby, Erik and Cody Martin; ten great grandchildren; brother, Thomas G. Martin of Oklahoma; and a host of additional nieces, nephews and friends.

His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2011, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland, with burial to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.  A gathering of his family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 25, 2011, at Broussard’s.  Serving as pallbearers will be Steve Picou, Jr., Andy Martin, Josh Martin, Sean Martin, Robby Martin, Erik Martin and Cody Martin.  Honorary pallbearer will be Jill Chavers. 

The family would like to extend a special “thank you” to the nurses at the Medical Center and the staff at Altus for their loving care to their father.
