Norma Ruth White, 76, died on November 19, 2011, in Houston, Texas.
Norma was born in Los Angeles to Joe Plettman and Paula Immergluck Plettman on October 8, 1935. She graduated from Beaumont High School, and received a degree in mathematics from Lamar College of Technology, and did graduate work. She was married to Dan Rhodenbaugh, who was killed in an Air Force training accident in 1961. She taught high school in Marianna, Florida; College Station, Texas; and at Beaumont High School. She then went to work for the Social Security Administration, from which she eventually retired. She married Jerry Carl White on September 8, 1963. She served as a director of White Tire Supply, president of the Texas Association of Parent Teacher Associations, and was a faithful member of the Golden Circle class at First Christian Church.
Norma was a ferocious bridge player. She earned her Life Masters in 2006, and was an enthusiastic member of the Beaumont Bridge Studio. She had a passion for travel, and she and Jerry were always looking forward to their next adventure. She loved food, and always anticipated outings with her Friday Night group.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, last December.
She is survived by son, Joe Carl White and his wife, Anne and their daughter, Kate all of Houston; son, David Bruce White and his wife, Lauren and their daughter, Rebekah and son, Benjamin all of Houston; brother-in-law, Walter White of Austin; sister-in-law, Gwen Kunz of Houston; and cousin-in-law, Maurine Plettman of Beaumont.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00p.m, on Tuesday, November 22, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at First Christian Church, 5290 North Caldwood Drive, with the Reverend Brenda Warren officiating under the direction of Broussard’s. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Magnolia Cemetery, 2291 Pine Street, Beaumont.
