Melissa Mayer Young, 53, of Beaumont, died Sunday, November 20, 2011, at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth, in Beaumont. Born March 17, 1958, to Anita Payton Mayer and Raymond Larry Mayer, Sr. in Port Arthur, she was a lifelong resident of the area. She was a witty, selfless, generous and loving person. Melissa was always making others laugh.
She most recently worked as the office manager at TSO in Port Arthur, but will be more importantly remembered for the wonderful homemaker that she was. Her favorite part of life was being Nanna to her three adoring grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Roger Young of Beaumont; daughter, Lindsay Snider and her husband, Oscar of Sour Lake; grandchildren, Caleb Snider, Kaylie Snider, and Graham Snider, all of Sour Lake; father, Raymond Larry Mayer, Sr. of Groves; step-mother, Eva Mayer of Groves; mother, Anita Mayer of Nederland; sisters, Amy Foreman and her husband, Eugene of Groves and Janna Ernst of Dickinson, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Melissa is preceded in death by her sister, Kirsten Mayer; brother, Raymond Larry Mayer, Jr.; and grandmother, Tessie Guidry.
Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland, with burial to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches. A gathering of her family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 22, 2011, at Broussard’s.
