Charlie E. Morgan

Charlie E. Morgan, 92, of Nederland, passed away Saturday, November 12, 2011, at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas in Port Arthur. He was born December 30, 1918, in Pleasant Hill, Louisiana, to Ruth and Ocie Morgan and had been a longtime Nederland resident. A graduate of Sweetwater High School, he worked for Gulf Oil in Sweetwater and Port Arthur for thirty-eight years having worked in Tacoma, Washington, and brought from retirement to go to Japan. He was a longstanding member of First Baptist Church in Nederland where he had been a shut-in for some years. Following his retirement, he loved to travel and work on his many hobbies.

 

Charlie was an Air Force veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict.  He was attached to the 306th Bomber group on a B-17 as top turret gunner before his injury.  He served at a number of bases and worked for Boeing for the remainder of the war after his rehabilitation.  He was called back to serve during the Korean conflict and served at Barksdale Air Force base in Shreveport, Louisiana, working on B-29 bombers. He was a sixty-seven year member of the American Legion and a member of Butler Redd Post 493 in Nederland and past president of the American Legion Post in Sweetwater.

 

Survivors include his daughter, Susan Gail Morgan Streetman and her husband, Charlie of Nederland; daughter-in-law, Betty Morgan of Bridge City; grandchildren, Charles M. Morgan and his wife, Chanda of Coos Bay, Oregon, Jeffrey Hinton of Waleska, Georgia, Brandianne Hinton of Beaumont, Scott Morgan and his wife, Connie of Nederland, and James Patrick Morgan; great grandchildren, Sydney Morgan, Michael Morgan, Hayley Hinton of Sepoia, Arizona, Cymber Morgan, Gage Morgan, and Bryton Morgan; close family friend, Jeanie Tinert; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Ocie Morgan; beloved wife of sixty-seven years, Della Beatrice Morgan; daughter, Janice Marie Morgan; sons, Michael C. Morgan and John Patrick Morgan; and brother, Robert L. Morgan.

 

His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 16, 2011, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland, with interment to follow at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County, Nederland. A gathering of his family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 15, 2011, at Broussard’s.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to his former caregiver, Joyce Griggs, his daily caregivers, Brandianne Hinton and Charlie Streetman, Texas Home Health and their home nurses and physical therapists, Dr. Kahtan Kaissi for his loving care over the years, special friends, Myma and Buddy Webster of Beaumont, and his barber, Donnie of Donnie’s in Nederland whom he loved.
