Jesse Charles McLain, Sr., 78, of Nederland, died Friday, November 4, 2011, at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Katy. Born December 17, 1932, in Nacogdoches, to Annie Peterson and Jesse Franklin McLain, he had been a resident of Nederland for forty-seven years.
Jesse enjoyed photography, bowling and fishing. He loved watching sports, especially baseball. He also enjoyed time spent in the garden growing roses. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. Jesse worked for Texaco, formerly Jefferson Chemical, for over thirty years.
He is preceded in death by his son, Chuck McLain.
Survivors include his wife, Antoinette McLain of Nederland; daughter, Debra Gray and her husband, Scott of Katy; daughter-in-law, Stephanie McLain of Orange; grandchildren, Chelsea McLain, Blake Gray, Jessica McLain, and Lauren Gray; sisters, Tommie-Jean Proctor and Marceil Smith, both of Houston; sister-in-law, Rosie Decuir and her husband, Denis; nieces, Judy Robinson, Karen Smith, Cathy Gilmore, Stephanie McCaffity, and Ashley Decuir; nephews, Clint Decuir, Brian Decuir, David Bonura; and a host of great nieces and nephews.
A mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 8, 2011, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 130 Hardy Avenue, Nederland, with a committal to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Groves. A gathering of his family and friends will be Monday, November 7, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Broussard’s, 505 12th Street, Nederland.
Serving as pallbearers will be Scott Gray, Blake Gray, David Bonura, James McLain, Denis Decuir, Brian Decuir, and Clint Decuir. Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas, P.O. Box 829, Beaumont, Texas 77704.
