Joe Kenneth Cravens, 79, passed away on November 3, 2011. He was born January 8, 1932, to James W. and Clara Cravens at the Cherry Mound settlement near Denison TX. He was a 1949 graduate of Denison High School and was a member of the winning Yellow Jacket football team of 1948. After serving proudly in the United States Marine Corps, Joe married his high school sweetheart, Joann Newland, on June 13, 1953.
Joe worked as an operating engineer at #2 power station of the Texaco Refinery in Port Arthur, Texas for over forty years.
Survivors include his wife, Joann; daughter, Jeannette Stafford of Nederland; and son, Joe II and his wife, Felicia, of Katy; six grandchildren, Tony Stafford, Jr. and his wife, Tiffany and Toby Tabor and her husband, Brian, all of Nederland, Hannah and Chelsea Cravens of Katy; Megan Davis and Lindsey Davis of Woodlands, California; and his three great-grandsons.
Joe was preceded in death by his brothers, George Cravens and Denver Cravens; his sisters, Agnes Campbell and Katherine Brown; by his daughter, Julie Davis.
His funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 7, 2011, at Broussard’s, 505 12th Street, Nederland, with Reverend Adam Pardue, officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches. A gathering of his family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, November 6, 2011, at Broussard’s.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
