Grady L. Hill

Grady L. Hill
July 11, 1918 - November 3, 2011

Grady Loraine Hill, age 93, passed away November 3, 2011, in Fort Bend County, Texas.  Grady was born July 11, 1918, in Kenedy, Texas to Lora Aline Craddock Hill and John Augustus Hill.  He was the oldest of three children.  Grady married Miss Geraldine Estelle Bailey of Port Neches, TX on December 28, 1944, and they were blessed with three children:  Gary Wayne Hill, Glenda Joy Hill Thacker, and Gina Estelle Hill Jamieson.  Grady was a long time resident of Nederland, Texas and a member of the First Baptist Church in Nederland.

Grady served his country in the United Stated Coast Guard Reserve during World War II from 1942 to 1945, and was stationed in New Orleans, Louisiana.  After his time in the Coast Guard, Grady and Geraldine moved back to the Nederland area where they built their home in 1951 and raised their children over the next thirty years.

Grady worked at the Neches Butane Products Company as a Head Operator until 1982, where he set the example of working long and hard without complaint to earn a living for his family.  He was always very willing to help his work colleagues and spent many hours lending advice and guidance on insurance and benefits questions.

Grady was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine, in 1991 after a long battle against cancer.  He was blessed late in life at the age of 74 to marry Mrs. Medren LaVerne Wisener, whom he affectionately referred to as his “angel wife”, which she truly was!  They were happily married for seventeen years before LaVerne passed away in August 2009.

Since 2009, Grady has been living in Fort Bend County, Texas, close to his two daughters, Glenda and Gina.  His precious daughter, Glenda Joy, passed away earlier this year after a courageous battle against cancer.

Grady is survived by his son, Gary Hill of Nederland; daughter, Gina Jamieson and her husband, Patrick of Katy; son-in-law, Troy Thacker of Sugar Land; grandson, Aaron Thacker and his life partner Todd Woodruff of New Orleans, Louisiana; granddaughter, Sarah Hill Brady and her husband, Chris; and great-grandson, Jackson James Brady of Beaumont. Grady is also survived by LaVerne’s children, sons, Mike Wisener and his wife, Allison of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Tim Wisener and his wife, Pam of Beaumont; and daughter, Denna Sims and her husband, Philip and their son, Billy Whitaker, of Nederland.

His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 5, 2011, at Broussard’s., 505 12th Street Nederland, with entombment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.  A gathering of his family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 4, 2011, at Broussard’s.

For those desiring, and in consideration of the terrible disease that claimed his loved ones, memorials in Grady’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 755 South 11th Street, Suite 212, Beaumont, Texas 77701, or you may make a contribution online at www.cancer.org.
