Betty Jean Powell, 81, of Beaumont, died Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at Harbor Hospital of Southeast Texas.
A native and lifelong resident of Beaumont, Betty was born September 27, 1930, to Addie Heiman Lane and Wroten Roy Lane. She was a retired medical secretary. Betty was a member of the Pilot Club and Wesley United Methodist Church. She also had volunteered at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth for many years.
Survivors include her Husband of sixty-one years, John H. Powell of Beaumont; daughters, Susan Long and her husband, Timothy of Tiki Island; and Linda P. Curry and her husband, Glen of Glennville, Georgia; brother, Milton “Bubba” Lane and his wife, Pat of Sour Lake; three grandchildren, Nathan B. Long of Jacksonville, Florida, Matthew J. Long and his wife, Lindsey of Spring, and Alex K. Knock of Richmond, Virginia; and one great-grandson, Sam M. Long of Spring.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen A. Powell.
Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 21, 2011, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 3810 North Major Drive, Beaumont, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A gathering of her family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Thursday, October 20, 2011, at Broussard’s.
