Mahlon Porter
June 11, 1931 - October 16, 2011

Mahlon Porter, 80, of Beaumont, died Sunday, October 16, 2011, surrounded by his family. He was born June 11, 1931, and was a long time resident of Beaumont.

 

He graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1950. Mahlon was an outstanding athlete and won thirteen letters in baseball, basketball, football, and golf. He served as captain of the football team and was considered an exceptional golfer. He continued to enjoy his love of golf throughout his life.

 

He married Ava Nell “Scotty” Porter in 1951. They celebrated their 57th Anniversary before her death in 2008. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a retired millwright from Sandoz Corporation. Mahlon was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was an exceptional man, and he was kind to everyone and is admired by all who knew him. He will be truly missed.

 

Mahlon is survived by his special dear friend, Audrey Busceme; sons, Jimmy Porter and his wife, Leanna and John Porter, Sr. and his wife, Hanane of Nederland; daughter, Linda Stewart and her husband, Bill of Lumberton; grandchildren, Jennifer Allen, Jamie Porter, John Porter, Jr., Michael Porter, Josh Porter, Amber Everett, Crissy Bailey, Courtney Yust, Cody Stewart; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Paul Porter of Naprono Heights, Pennsylvania; sisters, Lorraine Farmer of Silsbee and Alberta LeBlanc of Abbeville, Louisiana.

 

He is preceded in death by his wife, Ava Nell “Scotty” Porter; parents, Yvonne and Ralph Porter; and a brother, Lionel Porter.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 20, 2011, at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica, 700 Jefferson Street, Beaumont, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A gathering of his family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a Christian Vigil at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 19, 2011, at Broussard’s.
