MJ Duke, 73, of Nederland, died Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at his home. He was born September 22, 1938, in Bivins, Texas to Jessie Syble Hinton Duke and Chester Calvin Duke. MJ graduated from French High School in Beaumont and following that, served four years in the United States Air Force. He was employed as service manager for Kinsel Ford in Beaumont, and after leaving he opened his own auto repair shop in Nederland.
MJ leaves behind his wife of fifty-one years, June Duke; children, Mike Duke and his wife, Lori, Andrew Duke, Carolyn Duke Martin, and Robert Duke and Dee; grandchildren, April, Justin, Brittany, Eric, Amy, Blake and Jesse; great grandchildren, Dylan, Kiley, Ashlyn and Baylen; brothers, Donald Hooper and his wife, Linda of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Charles Hooper and his wife, Ann of Merryville, Louisiana.
He is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Johnathan Duke; and daughter-in-law, Dianne Duke.
A gathering of his family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 14, 2011, at Broussard’s, 505 N. 12th Street, Nederland.
A family committal will be held at Jackson Cemetery in Joaquin, Texas, on a later date.
