Benny Cyril Lindsey
February 7, 1930 - October 9, 2011

Benny Cyril Lindsey, 81, of Vidor, died Sunday, October 9, 2011. He was born to John and Dessie Lindsey February 7, 1930, in Jasper. Cyril graduated Valedictorian from Burkeville High School in 1948. He served his country in the United States Army from 1948 until 1952 where he was a certified Morse Code Interceptor. His medals included Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, UN Service Medal, and Occ Medal (Japan). Cyril retired from Gulf Oil in 1989 after thirty-seven years.

 

Cyril was an ordained deacon and served as a faithful member of Pine Forest Baptist Church in Vidor for forty-seven years. He enjoyed fishing, working in his yard, making hospital visits, and enjoying his grandchildren. 

 

He is survived by his wife of nineteen years, Phyllis Lindsey; sons, Mark Lindsey and wife, Connie, Kevin Lindsey and wife, Carol both of Lumberton; daughter-in-law, Winona of Bevil Oaks; stepsons, Greg Bagwell of Vidor and Scotty Bagwell and wife, Angela of Coal City, Illinois; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Imogene Weber of Burkeville.

 

Cyril is preceded in death by his parents, J.E. “Dick” and Irene Freeman; wife, Charlene Lindsey; and son, Reverend Larry Lindsey.

 

A Memorial Celebration of Cyril’s life will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 13, 2011, Pine Forest Baptist Church, 4800 North Main, Vidor, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.  A visitation of his family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday morning prior to the service at the church. A family committal will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

 

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to everyone at River City Hospice.
