Margaret Lange Pollock, 83, of Vidor, passed away peacefully Friday, September 30, 2011, at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont. A native of Vidor, she was born on March 3, 1928, to Violet Prosperie and Joseph Numa Lange. Margaret lived a full life making numerous friends along the way. At an early age, she sought to begin her journey as a nun, but life took her in a different direction. She later met the man she would wed, John Colver “J.C.” Pollock.
Margaret taught school for many years at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic School and for Vidor Independent School District. Many of her students remember her as their 5th grade History, Math and Science teacher. She enjoyed the outdoors and would often take her nieces and nephews in the RV, camping and fishing or to their cabin at Crystal Beach. After retirement, she volunteered at Columbia Hospital, M.A.S.H., St. Elizabeth Hospital, Baptist Hospital and Buckner Children’s Village. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Vidor, the church was established largely due to the efforts of her parents.
Survivors include her sister, Violet Grable of San Diego, California; nieces, Donna Taylor of San Antonio, Amanda Richie of Dallas and Julianna Lange of New Braunfels; nephews, Michael Manning, Patrick Manning of Blanco, Byron Votaw of Houston, Russell Lange of Vidor, Carlos Lange of West Chester, Ohio, Danny Lange of Bastrop, and Chris Lange of Houston; many great nieces and great nephews; and her beloved dog “Cricket”.
She is preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Pollock; sister, Thelma Lange; brothers, Wilbur Lange, Bud Lange and Roland Lange; and her parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 6, 2011, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1600 North Main Street, Vidor, with a graveside service to follow at 2:30 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. A Christian Vigil will be held at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 5, 2011, with a gathering of her family and friends to follow until 8:00 p.m. at Broussard’s.
