Harlan Dixson Tanner, 76, of Beaumont, died Sunday, September 25, 2011, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas in Beaumont. Born September 28, 1934, in Epps, Louisiana to Ruby Mae Crouch Tanner and Dixson Ellis Tanner; he had been a Beaumont resident since 1991.  He began his career in education having taught at Huntington, River Oaks, and Ridgedale Academies in Louisiana, Vidor I.S.D., and retired with Kountze I.S.D.  Throughout his career, he served as teacher, coach, and principal.  He was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Beaumont.

 

Survivors include his wife, Eunice Tanner of Beaumont; daughters, Amy Hedrick and her husband, David of Vidalia, Louisiana and Terry Tanner of Epps, Louisiana; son, Brian Tanner and his wife, Kim of Cypress; sister, Patsy Fontenot and her husband, Bert of Beaumont; brother, Wayne Tanner and his wife, Lynn of Hicks, Louisiana; grandchildren, Lauren, Kaitlyn, Camryn, Carson, Stacey, Kim, and Stephanie; several great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Tommy; and brother, Walton.

 

His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.  A gathering of his family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, September 26, 2011, at Broussard’s.
